This time of year, I am all about shortcuts that can save me time and energy… especially since this time of year, I am notorious for going over the top with EVERYTHING.

I go overboard with gift-giving. I go overboard with decorating. I go overboard with baking. And I make a fully scratch-made Christmas breakfast and dinner every year. There is a lot on my plate, but I put it there and I wouldn’t have it any other way! However, that doesn’t mean I can’t try and steal a couple shortcuts along the way 🙂 Anything to ease the weight of the holidays and all their expectations is something I appreciate.

Every year I make Christmas treat boxes for my favorite neighbors and friends. Problem is, I have the hardest time narrowing down to a manageable number of boxes to give. I wish I could give one to everyone in my apartment complex but trying to skim that number down to even 12 boxes is hard for me to do! I usually make 4-6 different treats so each box has a variety, too. If I could give one of each treat to each household, I would, but I hate the idea of someone else in the house not experiencing a certain treat so I usually give everyone a few pieces of each, even if it means I have to double or triple batch bake a certain recipe.

So as you can imagine, I try my hardest to make this easier on me without sacrificing flavor. Enter: these Pretzel Turtles. They’re one of the easiest candies to whip up EVER and they make as big or as little of a batch as you need. Only three simple ingredients you could pick up at any grocery store, but when combined together, those three ingredients create a sweet and salty flavor bomb that’s irresistible, addicting and delightful! Sweet, salty, crunchy, creamy, gooey, and nutty and everything in between.

Bake them briefly just to barely melt the Rolo, then top with a pecan half. It’s so simple that I hesitate to call them a recipe!

Definitely give these super easy, big-batch candies a try!

Ingredients

  • Pretzel twists
  • Rolo candies unwrapped
  • Pecan halves
  • *This recipe makes as much or as little as you want. Make sure you one of each component to match up to create a single turtle candy. For instance 30 pretzels, 30 Rolos and 30 pecan halves. I usually "measure" how much I'm going to make by how many Rolos come in a package.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  • Arrange as many pretzel twists on the baking sheet in an even layer, removing and discarding any broken pieces. Top each pretzel twist with an unwrapped Rolo candy.
  • Bake for 2-3 minutes or until the candy just begins to glisten and soften. Immediately remove from the oven and press a pecan half in the center of each Rolo candy. Allow the chocolate candy to set before packing or serving.
