I cannot remember ever having a memorable Valentine’s Day, and I was coupled up for several V Days in my life 👀 I’m not hard to please, but either my memory is blocked from the trauma of boyfriends past, or they really were lackluster February 14ths. Either way, it doesn’t matter. Now that I am a proud forever spinster, I love the holiday for the aesthetics, not necessarily the message. I mean, have you seen vintage valentines? They’re adorable! Pink and red together? Too cute for words! Hearts? I love! 💖 Who needs romance!? I didn’t have the greatest experience as a Girl Scout, but I don’t hold that against the GSA. I felt a bit like Wednesday Addams in the critically acclaimed, Oscar-worthy (by me only) film Addams Family Values where Wednesday and Pugsley get sent to that happy camp and have to do group activities. I am not a group worker, I am not a peppy kinda gal. So my stint as a brownie was short-lived. But I do still support the gals when they make their cookie rounds. I am most definitely a Starbucks hussy and love getting coffee and teas from there. Of all the chains, it’s superior IMO. Peet’s tastes like they made my drink with the dish water. Dutch Bros coffee tastes like they put uppers in it. And Dunkin’ can never seem to get my coffee order correct, so I’m always getting some random ass coffee order? 🧐 And I love supporting small biz coffee shops the most, but there aren’t any convenient to me at the moment! ☕️ I love Starbucks pastries, but when I’m already spending $5 on a drink, it feels frivolous to add on another $4 for a pastry. Last night, my neighbor friend and I walked to a close-by restaurant for happy hour just to get some cheap appetizers for dinner since we’re both sober. Afterwards, I got a dessert to go and we headed home. We were crossing the street when I tripped over one of those like reflector gem-looking things stuck to the road and completely freaking ATE it in the middle of a street… while a car was coming 🙃 Both of my glasses (sunglasses resting on my hair and the glasses on my face) FLEW off my head Velma from Scooby Doo style, my hand and knee smashed against the asphalt super dramatically but my fat ass self held that to-go dessert up high like a freaking Olympic torch so it wouldn’t be demolished on the road like the roadkill I was about to become 💀 Thank the UNIVERSE the car slowed to a stop and watched me and my friend pick up my glasses, self, and scrape up any last bit of dignity off the road and hobble to the sidewalk to safety. And no, there is no crosswalk on this damn road! But lest you scold me in the comments (god please don’t, it’s my pet peeve; its over and done with and I learned my lesson) I’m no dummy - I will be driving to happy hour in the future from here on out. Today I turn 32 years old and it feels surreal and also “I’m ONLY 32?!” because in many ways I feel ancient. I was walking Jack yesterday and the sun was shining and he had a pep in his step after some medical issues that have since been resolved and I was just thinking to myself how truly HAPPY I feel in my life right now. It has been a LOOONG time coming, and the pessimist/realist in me is kinda lurking around wondering when the other shoe will drop, but I’m trying to soak in as much of this goodness as I can.
I am so grateful to have not one, but two successful small businesses: my baking blog here and my jewelry business which catapulted into a successful venture I didn’t anticipate last year. Sales have been enormous and I am so grateful. Balancing the two is difficult, but it’s a fun challenge, one I take day by day.
I quite literally started the year taking my health into my own hands by getting sterilized and I have never felt more at peace over a decision about my future. I feel very privileged to have been able to make such a choice for myself and it is one I don’t take for granted.

I just spent a lovely 5 days in Portland, Oregon with my sister getting an exorbitant amount of tattoos and doing an insane amount of antiquing for both our birthdays and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Portland is known for some pretty good food, and my sister introduced me to a life-changing banana pudding soft serve sundae that I will dream about until the very end of time. Banana pudding is my absolute fave comfort dessert. Even though I was born and raised in California, I feel like I’m a New Yorker at heart. I walk fast, I don’t like the beach, I have places to be and am impatient attitude towards dawdling, I love ambient city noises and I love the general attitude and frenetic buzz of NYC. People are always like “but NYC is so expensive!” Yeah, and? California ain’t cheap! You don’t want to know what my rent is, babe. 😭 Despite the fact that the last time I was in Manhattan a man on the subway told me I was going to hell because of my tattoos (I just looked him dead in the face and said I was the devil and that shut him up really quickly - see! Today is my baby sister’s 25th birthday which is shocking to me since I still feel 25 but also at the same time 75 years old. (I turn 32 in exactly 2 weeks). I currently have a cold and when I get sick, my voice tends to take a severe nosedive into hoarse territory. It all started when I was a child and had the raspy voice of a 12-pack-a-day smoker and my parents were like “hmm, maybe this isn’t right” and took me to an ENT doctor. The doctor confirmed I have special vocal chords similar to those seen in opera singers despite the fact that I cannot sing and will never even subject someone to a karaoke song 🎤 Now when I get sick, my voice gets really messed up and I sound like I’ve been chainsmoking since I was 2 years old. 🚬 This is all fine and good, except one time I was feeling better but my voice was less than stellar and I decided to ditch work for one last day and go to the Sephora grand opening at my local mall. My mom and I were waiting in line because they were handing out gift cards to the first few people when all of a sudden a news crew came up and asked to interview us. Keep in mind, I was 18 years old with a voice of a 70 year old emphysemic rubber chicken and was still hopped up on DayQuil. The lady asked me why I was so happy to have Sephora in the mall and I said “because it’s a makeup mayhem!” in my wretched-ass cursed voice. 👀 I meant to say makeup MECCA but my sick brain confused the words and I made a fool of myself on TV and also outed myself to my employer that I was, in fact, at the mall instead of at home recuperating. 🥴 In the end I got a $20 gift card and an Urban Decay eyeshadow palette that I wore to the pans, but the scars of sounding like a chainsmoking, illiterate rubber chicken on local TV live on. 😭 Speaking of malls, I’m glad I have this recipe for PERFECT & EASY SOFT PRETZELS to make at home so I can skip the crowds and rogue news crews and get my pretzel fix at home! 🥨 These are SO easy and delicious! I’m back! I survived surgery but immediately upon returning home from recuperating at my parents house, they dropped me back off with a parting gift: their weeks-long cold 🤕 This cold is worse than my surgery recovery, let me tell you. And the crappiest part is, there’s a storm coming and it’s all ominous outside and not unlike the opening scenes from Wizard of Oz before the livestock start flying. 🌪️🐄 So I’m barricaded inside, praying we won’t lose electricity, desperately craving food that I don’t have to make and feeling like utter crap run over 😭 It’s all bad. So I’m alive and home from surgery and recuperating at my parents house for 48 hours. In living with my parents again for 2 days as a patient who needed their help, I was able to commandeer the TV and watch all of Real Housewives of Atlanta season 3 without complaint… and they even watched it with me! After episode upon episode of NeNe and Kim fighting I figured I’d spare them and I turned it off, only to have them say “but I wanted to see what happened next!” 🥲I felt so proud! My dad even said he was a NeNe and Kandi fan! My mom also sent me home with food and some over-the-hill bananas that I fully plan on turning into this SIMPLY PERFECT BANANA CAKE as soon as possible. 🍌🍰This cake reminds me of the nostalgic Sara Lee banana cake from the past but BETTER because it’s homemade from scratch and tastes AMAZING. I hope everyone had a very merry holiday! I certainly did, despite my sister being stranded in Portland and missing her terribly! Now it’s that weird, vague week before the new year where we just kind of exist and wait around for things to get back to normal? I spent the entire day on TikTok and like.. it felt productive. I laughed a lot, I cried once and okay, I actually did go to Target to get groceries and was part of a gift card scam 😭 Apparently one of the gift cards I got for Christmas was already used by a scammer so I was stuck in the checkout line like scrambling to put the rest of my tab on other cards (hi, I overspent on Christmas presents and am currently broke). Unless you’re in the Tahoe/Truckee area, Yosemite maybe or Mammoth (or a random part of Pasadena 👀 according to RHOBH star Erika Jayne) it doesn’t snow in California. I’ve experienced what can best be described as dandruff falling from the sky and melting as soon as it hit the pavement to which the meteorologists were quick to dub “snow” but it was nothing like the white Christmases many people get in other parts of the world. In fact, besides only going twice as a child to what can best be described as a rest stop on the side of the road on the way to Tahoe, I’ve never been skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, tobogganning or any activity involving the snow. I don’t even recall building a snowman. I did, however, sled down a small hill of snow on a garbage can lid we grabbed last minute on our jaunt to the side of the road. But because we didn’t have snow tires or chains, we never went further exploring. To this day, besides one time in New York where I saw filthy brown snow, I’ve not experienced snow. ☃️ I say this as my neighbor is currently in the actual Arctic Circle in Norway and I’m here in a regular sweater and jeans. I have, however, experienced SNOWBALL COOKIES which are one of my all-time favorite holiday cookies. They’re nutty, tender, melt-in-your-mouth cookies made with ground pecans and coated in powdered sugar. The last time I went to Disneyland, it was Disneyland Paris and I had a blast. But the time before, I went to Disneyland here in California with my sister and while we had fun, we had a huge, deeply traumatic event happen on Pirates of the Caribbean. What is normally a great ride to relax, smell some bog water, unwind and rest your legs after a long day of walking turned into an absolute nightmare. The lady working put my sister, myself, and other fellow, er, plus-sized folks all on the back of the boat and only put people weighing less than 5lbs in the front half of the boat. Already the scales were imbalanced. If you haven’t been on Pirates, there are two little “dips” where you maybe get misted with swamp water. But because of the unfortunate imbalance of the boat, us fatties in the back got freaking tsunami’d with a torrential downpour of pirate water. That little dip turned into a near capsized fatality. My sister and I were Splash Mountain SOAKED. Like actually dripping wet. 💦 It was warm so we figured we’d walk it off but after an hour or two in 20 lb wet denim our jeans hadn’t dried and we had to find the nearest gift shop to purchase $70 pants in. 👖 I will never ride Pirates again 🏴☠️ But to tide me over until I can get to the parks again, I have made the famous Disneyland CHURRO TOFFEE at home and it is SO good. ✨ Buttery, crunchy toffee topped with creamy white chocolate and cinnamon sugar for a fun sweet and spicy twist on a classic. ❤️ Recipe is in the link in my bio, or comment CHURRO TOFFEE without any emojis for the recipe to be sent to your DMs!

Happy Gotcha Day/“Birthday” to my best friend, my main squeeze and my absolute SOULMATE, Jack! 🐶 Jack came into my life 7 years ago today (though we think he is celebrating his 9th birthday today!) after I spotted him at an adoption event and leapt from a moving vehicle to ask about him (true story). On the day the rescue dropped him off, he walked right up to our artificial Christmas tree and peed on it and I said “I’ll take him!” It’s been nothing but laughs, epic bleps 👅, crazy good snuggles and amazing companionship since then. ❤️ I love my forever puppy so much! (And for those wondering, I DNA tested him and he is 25% Yorkie, 25% Shih Tzu, 12.5% Mini Poodle, 12.5% Bichon and the rest the DNA company called “super mutt!” 🐾 I just call him a Shorkie!)...

We have less than 2 weeks before Christmas and I am freaking the heck out. Where did the time go? I feel like this year has flown by at warp speed. 💨 As a kid it always felt like it CRAWLED at a glacial pace til Christmas and I would stare hungrily at my presents under the tree waiting desperately for the 25th to arrive. Now I’m like, wait a darn minute! (But don’t get me wrong, I’m still equally as jazzed because I get my biggest hit of dopamine all year watching my fam open their Christmas gifts on Christmas morning! Gift giving is my love language) 🎁 This year I’m taking it easy on the baked goods but I’ll for sure be baking a batch of these GINGERDOODLES! POLAR BEAR PAWS aren’t really endangered bear paws but are actually salty peanuts mixed with buttery caramel and coated in smooth, sweet white chocolate. Do they look like a paw? Not particularly. But take it up with the See’s Candy Corporation if you want to get super technical. I am trying to get everything done this month and check off all the boxes because at the end of the month, I’m having a minor surgery and don’t want to have a ton of to-dos ruminating in my noggin when they wake me up from anesthesia. Last time I had surgery, it was to remove my wisdom teeth, and before that, it was to remove about 12 other teeth in my head since I come from a long line of shark people who apparently have never-ending adult teeth in their heads? 🦷 They warned my mom when I woke up from anesthesia I would either “be laughing or crying” and it was the latter. All I remember was lying in the fetal position crying my eyes out saying “can I have a milkshake now?” or as best as my mom could translate with my mouth filled with gauze. This time I will not be able to walk Jack for one week 😭 but I will have plenty of time to force my ass to sit and attempt to relax as my ~healing journey~ begins. 🥲 Hopefully I will have the foresight to make these SUGAR PIE SQUARES ahead of time so I can snack on them during my recovery period.
