In reply to Susan. Hi Susan! You can try lightly tossing the candies in about 1-2 Tbsp of all-purpose flour. This works with blueberries to help prevent sinking, so I don't see why it wouldn't work with cinnamon candies!

My husband has made this recipe twice. The first time he ground up the red hots and added them to the cake batter. The cupcakes didn’t rise. The second time he smacked them with a meat tenderizer and added the bigger chunks to the batter. This time the cupcakes rose, but all the candy melted and sank to the bottom (and stuck to the cupcake papers).. Any suggestions?

Everything else we’ve tried from “Out of the Box” cookbook has been wonderful, especially the Coconut Layer Cake. Yum!

I love the idea of ret hot cupcakes, , but i dont do box cake mixes, can i make my own cake batter and add the extract and candies? wouldnt it taste the same?

OMG I’m killing myself laughing not because I’m laughing AT you but because I could totally picture something like that happening to me with my insane dog. The mental image of you drop kicking the squirrel is priceless. I think you need your own reality tv show. I would TOTALLY watch that! As for these cupcakes – they look fabulous! Hopefully there was a batch of these to calm you down after the walk from hell.
