Fashion Fridays: WIN a BRAND NEW Too Faced EVERYTHING NICE Makeup Palette!

tdr fashion fridayChristmas has come early, friends!

I have been dying for Friday to get here because I could not wait for you guys to enter this giveaway!

As a HUGE makeup junkie, I am always scouring beauty blogs, Pinterest, and stores for the latest and greatest beauty trends and products. Namely products, since I like to set my own trends 🙂

One of my favorite times of year is Christmastime for many reasons, one of which is because cosmetics companies usually break out the big guns and release new and exclusive palettes around this time of year. And while perusing Sephora, I spotted this gorgeous gem and knew I couldn’t very well buy one for myself without getting one for YOU, too!

DSC_0579AToo Faced’s brand new, exclusive holiday “Everything Nice” palette lives up to its name! This versatile holiday palette features 20 richly-pigmented eye shadows including new shades exclusive to this collection; a deluxe sample of their best-selling Better Than Sex mascara; 2 blushes, including the every-sexy Papa Don’t Preach; 2 bronzers, including their infamous antioxidant-rich Chocolate Soleil bronzer (which yes, smells like milk chocolate!); and a trio of teddy-hair glitter brushes, plus a lookbook with 4 gorgeous holiday makeup styles to recreate. Everything can be conveniently (and stylishly!) stored in this gorgeous hot pink glitter makeup bag (but personally, I plan on using it as a holiday clutch!).

DSC_0581AMy favorite thing about this palette? Its versatility. Conservative makeup-wearers will love it because it features an array of softer shades that easily blend to create seamless daytime smoky eyes or softer looks. And wilder makeup-lovers will enjoy the rich, highly-pigmented pops of color like ‘Totally Fetch’, an amazing hot pink, to freshen up their everyday looks. My favorite? ‘Mauvelous’, a shimmery mauve color, looks like it’ll be my new favorite everyday neutral. ‘Too Glam’, a glittery emerald, is by far the most stunning pick of the palette and would be an excellent choice for a holiday smoky eye or would make for a statement-making liner. And I love the idea of ‘Girly’, a unique iridescent greige color with pops of green and gold; it would make an excellent smoked out eye look.

DSC_0585AAnd one more favorite about Too Faced: they’re cruelty-free, which is huge for an animal-lover like myself. They’re also free of parabens and sulfates so you can look and feel gorgeous 🙂

…but don’t take my word for it. YOU can experiment with this actual palette, too! Just enter using the widget below. I’ll randomly choose a winner on October 1, 2014 and will give the winner 48 hours to respond to my email. Simple!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

DSC_0590AThis palette will likely only stick around for the holiday season, so if you don’t win, be sure to pick one up at your local Sephora or ULTA stores. You can also order online at 🙂 a $450 dollar value selling for only $59. It’s definitely a steal-deal, and one you’ll be happy you made when you’re rocking through the holidays glamorously!

DSC_0577Have a fantastical day!!

In the interest of full disclosure, I was not compensated or provided with any product by Too Faced. I purchased and reviewed the palette myself and all opinions are 100% my own. If Too Faced would like to contact me and give me free stuff, however, I won’t decline 🙂

Fashion Fridays: Links I’m Loving & A Diamond Candles Giveaway!

tdr fashion fridayHappy Friday, friends!

As I navigate the craziness of NYC (and love every.single.minute of it!) I figured I’d share some links I’m loving with you.  These are things I’ve bookmarked to make, buy, or am just plain loving.  I hope you do, too!  Enjoy!

This Romance Columnist Romper.  Paired with thick black tights, heeled black booties and a simple cardigan, it makes me want to curl up in a library somewhere while sipping a mocha.

MAC’s new Simpsons Collection — these Nail Stickers are divine and I absolutely must own them.  Likewise, I’m loving this Marge’s Extra Ingredient Palette.  Surprisingly, the eye shadow shades aren’t as flamboyantly neon as I’d expected.  Marge would approve.

I’m also loving that FXX is playing every Simpsons episode ever.  Or was, anyway.  It allowed me to relive my childhood and oh, the jokes are even funnier than I remembered.

These Flying Burger People Eater Heels.  Outrageous.  I need.

The perfect way to store candy corn or creepy gummy candies — in a life-size human skull shaped dish, no less.

My dear friend Christi from Love From The Oven published her first book, Smart Cookie, available now.  Christi takes storebought cookies to the next level by creating adorable, unique crafted cookies, like her cover-shot (cupcakes made from cookies!). A must-read!

Likewise, some other blogger friends have cookbooks coming out soon, too!  Dorothy‘s comes out September 30, Gina’s comes out September 30, Averie‘s comes out October 6, and Jessica’s came out on the 2nd.  Amazing!

Did you miss the Silent Blogger Auction post from a couple days ago?  If you did, be sure to check it out and BID HERE.  The auction ends on Sunday, so be sure to get your bids in ASAP.  It’s for an incredible cause, and every donation helps.

Likewise, The Pampered Chef and I are hosting an awesome giveaway for #HungerAction month. We’re giving away a Deep Covered Baker in Cranberry; a Trio of Bamboo Spoons; and a Set of Four (4) Nourish Soup Bowls for their Round Up From The Heart Campaign.  Did you know $2 can secure up to 18 meals for needy families?  Be sure to enter my giveaway and check out Pampered Chef’s charity products to help donate.

Obsessssssing over Diamond Candles — have you heard of them or tried them before?  They are life-changing, people.

diamondFirst, Diamond Candles are made entirely from organic soybeans grown in Durham, North Carolina, where their candles are also manufactured. They do not use paraffin wax, which is made by crude oil and supports oil companies — instead, each candle you purchase helps local soybean farmers and agriculture in North Carolina.  Pretty cool, right?

Second, Diamond Candles combines the premium, delicious scents of their 100% soy wax candles with a fun “ring reveal” in every candle!  As the candle burns, a surprise ring inside reveals itself, and the ring could be worth $10, $100, $1000, or even $5000 and can be worn for years to come.  How fun is it that your candle will produce a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind ring?!

DSC_0222AThird, Diamond Candles smell incredible.  One of my candle “peeves” is that candles usually smell awesome, but they only make the immediate area in which they’re burning smell good, too.  Diamond Candles “throw” (the distance the fragrance travels when lit) is much larger than other major candle companies I’ve tried.  I lit my Diamond Candle in the living room and could smell the intoxicating fragrance throughout my dining room, kitchen, family room — even down the hall toward our bedrooms!  I was shocked at how strong, unadulterated and extraordinary this candle and its fragrance burned!

DSC_0216AWhile it was hard to pick just one, I chose the Pumpkin Chai candle because nothing ushers in the fall season than warm, roasted pumpkin.  This candle combines that delectable roasted pumpkin aroma with the spicy, warm blend of chai spices.  My entire home smelled like fall and was so relaxing and welcoming — I just wanted to nestle up by the candle with a cup of hot chai 🙂

ringAnd when my ring was revealed, I was so excited!  It was a beautiful silver band with a bright purple stone in the center.  While it wasn’t real, it’s gorgeous, and I can’t wait to flaunt it on my fingers!

candycornWant your own Diamond Candle to experience? Simply leave me a comment below telling me WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING FOOD FLAVORS YOU’D LOVE TO EXPERIENCE?

Diamond Candles new Food Collection curates the tastiest treats into beautiful, soy candles!  Choose from: Cupcake; Caramel Apple Cider; Pumpkin Chai; Candy Corn; Cinnamon Tea; Carnival Candy; or Cinnamon Roll.

I’ll randomly choose a winner on September 12, 2014. You’ll have 48 hours to respond to my email or else a new winner will be chosen. Good luck!

Be sure to check out Diamond Candles website for more product information, and connect with them on FACEBOOK, PINTEREST, INSTAGRAM & TWITTER!

Fashion Fridays: Juicy Couture Now Available At Kohl’s {GIVEAWAY CLOSED}

tdr fashion friday

whatHappy Friday everyone!  Grab some snacks real quick, because we’re headed into a brief time travelling machine… annnnd go!

Flashback to 2003.  Paris Hilton was still relevant.  Kim Kardashian was merely a name.  And Finding Nemo had just been released (no, really).  Juicy Couture was also the hottest thing since sliced bread.

Splashed across page 6 of the hottest gossip magazines, stars like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Britney Spears were grabbing Frappuccinos, yappy Yorkies in tow, wearing head-to-toe Juicy Couture velour tracksuits.  The rainbow of colors were blinding, the blinged out booties were coveted across the world, and everyone was clamoring for a fuzzy tracksuit that made wearing pajamas in public popular and fashionable.

I distinctly remember visiting Hollywood around this time and spying gaggles of women on the streets of Melrose and Rodeo sporting Juicy tracksuits and I remember craving one so bad.  Problem was, they were in the hundreds of dollars — a standard tracksuit could easily total $300, and that was without the blingy ass.

So I worked my booty off to earn some extra money, which I promptly spent on a brand new tracksuit I found on eBay.  I paid $170 and was so excited to try on the glorified sweatpants when I got them in the mail.  Color me a sucker, but I was obsessed with this Juicy craze.  And so began the hype with Juicy Couture and the celebrity buzz behind the name, their legendary tracksuits, and their creation of this lazy, California-cool style.

And then Juicy Couture stores closed down this past spring.  Ours up and disappeared in our mall, leaving me a little wistful for those terrycloth suits (which I’ve since *thankfully* grown out of).  However, in the years that had passed, Juicy had kept the tracksuits but had also elevated their brand to include tastefully tailored clothes, pretty dresses, classic jewelry and fun charms, and pretty nice handbags.  I was particularly fond of the gorgeous, sparkly necklaces and the super cool charms, which I collected on a necklace.  Where, oh where did my old friend go?

Juicy Couture is now officially available at Kohl’s.  After being sold to a large marketing company this past spring, Juicy closed all of their stores and signed a deal with Kohl’s, who also houses other designer spin-off lines, like Simply Vera by Vera Wang, Jennifer Lopez, Lauren Conrad, and specially curated lines by Jason Wu and Derek Lam.  And now, Juicy joins this list.  I checked out the line at my local Kohl’s and assessed the pieces for sale online.

juicyclothesFirst, the clothes.  Juicy’s line at Kohl’s isn’t as polished and whimsical as its original namesake.  The clothes seemed to have gone through a time machine back to circa 2003, featuring terry-cloth and velour tracksuits and eponymous tees.  They have more updated trends, too, like whiskered skinny jeans (above), embellished sweatshirts (above) and studded joggers, which are incredibly popular right now (for whatever reason).  And the prices?  Significantly cheaper than your Juicy tracksuit from 11 years ago.  Without considering coupons, credit cards, or any other discounts, a standard Juicy tracksuit at Kohl’s will set you back about $100, whereas separates range from $30-60.

juicynecklacI was pleasantly surprised with Juicy’s line of jewelry for Kohl’s, as it’s a mix of trendier pieces (like these) along with their signature charm bracelets and crown insignia.  Personally, I find these pieces to look more polished than your toggle charm necklace, but to each their own.  Last year I was in Juicy Couture when I spotted a necklace strikingly similar to the bottom right necklace — the in-store necklace was over $200, whereas this doppelganger piece clocks in at $44.  I love the mixed metals and textures, from the delicate chain braided with rope, and the gaudier jewels.

juicybraceletI also love their line of bracelets and bangles.  I’m particularly fond of this chain link bracelet (bottom) because it’s simple enough that it could be worn with jeans or dressed up for a more formal event.  I love the black cord running throughout and the diamond embellishment is polished, not childish.  The bangles (above) are inexpensive enough to buy multiples, so you can stack them for a cooler look.  I love the jewel-encrusted one; it’s elegant without trying too hard.

juicyjewelsThe highest price point for Juicy’s line at Kohl’s would be their watch collection.  The cheapest watches I found were $100, and the most expensive was this Stella Bling watch for a steep $390.  Made with ombre Swarovski crystals, it’s definitely an eye-turner and would make for a very generous gift.  For those who aren’t flush with $400, might you try their classic “Choose Juicy” Jetsetter watch for $100 (which comes with different styles of faces as well) or their simple Pedigree watch (below) in a gorgeous rose-gold with a crystal edge along the face.  Earring-wise, I love the Oval Drop earrings (bottom right) since they’re sophisticated and sleek, or the Love Drop Chandelier earrings which are more friendly to casual situations or to be dressed up.

Bottom Line: the Juicy Couture at Kohl’s line seems to be staying for the foreseeable future.  Rumor has it that the line will continue to expand in time to include more clothes, shoes and accessories.  In the meantime, the line at Kohl’s also carries a handful of scarves, rings, their entire perfume collection, a kids collection, and even bedding, for those who wanted to move into a Juicy store when they existed (my hand is raised)!  Plus, Kohl’s offers discounts and coupons so frequently, so people can finally enjoy this classic California-style line at an affordable price.

While the line isn’t as whimsical, tailored or luxe as it once was, it still offers fashion-lovers the chance to enjoy their eponymous label with their girlie, cheeky tees and their classic suits at a lower price point.  While I won’t be rocking terry cloth anytime soon, I am particularly fond of their jewelry, which looks elegant, classy and trendy without being too kiddish and weighed down with charms.  Apparently you can still purchase Juicy merchandise on their website, but I’m not sure how much longer it will be available what with the new transition.

juicyperfWho wants free stuff?!  I’m giving away a bottle of their Special Edition Couture Couture Perfume (which smells heavenly, btw).  All you have to to enter is answer me this: What is your favorite way to indulge?  Be it indulging in your favorite food, getting a pedicure, taking a vacation, watching TV after a long day, whatever!  Tell me in the comments below.

For extra entries, go on a follow spree and leave a separate comment for every like & follow you do — I will be verifying!

xo, Hayley

Note: I was not monetarily compensated or otherwise to cover the new line of Juicy Couture at Kohl’s, or for the giveaway.  I did this on my own and all opinions are 100% my own.  However, if Juicy or Kohl’s would like to compensate me with jewelry, I wouldn’t turn them down.

Fashion Fridays: Yes, You CAN Wear A Jumpsuit

tdr fashion friday

jumpYou know those cool girls you occasionally see shopping at the mall or posed outside in an abandoned-yet-cool parking lot for random pictures on Pinterest?  (And about those random parking lots — I have no idea where these girls live where there’s just a conveniently edgy enough area/neighborhood/abandoned building where I could take pictures of my outfits, because all of the abandoned areas around my house are complete with vulgar graffiti, strewn garbage and homeless folk, but I digress).

Those girls are usually wearing outfits that us mere mortals and our lack of cool parking lots think we could never pull off.  And one of those looks happens to be jumpsuits.  But I’m here to tell you that you absolutely can pull off a jumpsuit — with a little practice and the right accessories, jumpsuits can be the perfect outfit (hello, no need to match pants and tops!).

Long ago are the days when rompers were only for children and plumbers.  Jumpsuits and rompers are extremely fashion-forward, trendy, and can work for nearly everyone.  Not to mention — they are easily dressed up and down, so you can throw one on with a blazer and heels for work and wear the exact romper with sandals for brunch on the weekend.  Simple!

Let’s jump in, shall we?  (I’ll also stop with the terrible puns).

For the jumpsuit shy, here are some simple pieces to help ease you into the trend…

basicFrom Top Left: H&M, $40; One Clothing, $26; New Look, $30; DKNYC, $125

For beginner jumpsuit-wearers, I don’t recommend jumping in (sorry!) to pieces that are super patterned or heavily detailed.  Simple, cleaner silhouettes will make you feel more comfortable and will look more streamlined.  All of these jumpers would be fantastic to wear to work because they’re sharp, sophisticated and sleek without being too trendy or costume-y.

The bottom two pieces are a perfect way for the super gun-shy, since both of these jumpsuits have the appearance of being separates.  The Salt & Pepper Jumpsuit on the left has a solid black top and peppery colored bottoms with a simple belt cinching the waist and breaking up the one-piece.  And the DKNY jumper has that tuxedo effect with a classic white top which whittles into the flowy black trousers.

Assuming your office is slightly more casual, you could wear any of these jumpsuits as-is and expose your arms.  However, with temps eventually cooling down (or the fact that most offices are usually arctic temps) you could pair any of these jumpsuits with a tailored blazer (simple black would look best, though a fun color like hot pink would add a nice pop of color), a structured coat, or a simple, breezy cardigan. Workplace-friendly jumpsuits like these would work best with classic black pumps or stilettos, black strappy sandals, or black flats.

Now let’s talk about patterns…

From Left: Forever 21, $28; LoveCulture, $33; ModCloth; $50

Florals are a pattern that never goes out of style.  Case in point: floral jumpsuits, which offer the right amount of femininity and girliness without being as cloying as a tutu.  Black jumpsuits with a floral pattern look breezy and stylish; the black anchors the floral from being too overwhelming, but the floral offers a break from your basic black.  Wider legged styles, like the ModCloth version (right) are best worn with chunky booties or platforms to add height to all the volume in the pant legs, whereas slimmer styles, like the middle LoveCulture suit, would look badass in strappy heels, gladiator sandals, or even boots.

My general rule of thumb: the wider the pant leg, the higher the heel (so to speak).  Again, with so much volume on the bottom, it helps to elongate your legs and add height with heels.  Chunkier shoes, like boots, can look too bottom-heavy with wider-legged styles.  You have more shoe options with slimmer pant legs.

Depending on where you work, I’d say these jumpsuits have the potential to be workplace-friendly, depending on how they were styled.  The far-right suit would look best with a tailored cardigan, chunky bangles, and wedges.  And the middle would look great with a structured blazer, a skinny belt around the waist, and a strappy heel.  The first look is quite casual, but if your workplace is more casual, throw on a leather moto jacket to add some toughness to the outfit.

tribalFrom Left: Lulu’s, $54; Secret Charm, $38; Forever 21, $25

Tribal patterns are so trendy right now, simply because they’re fun and easy to wear.   I used to think that tribal patterns were only exclusive for Amazonian-gorgeous model girls, not a pale chick with Ray-Bans… but I was wrong!  Animal prints can easily be taken as ‘tribal’, and technically, the jumpsuit on the far right is a chevron pattern, just done closer together which gives it an exotic feel.

I love the idea of pairing boots with the tribal prints, especially if the jumpsuits have slimmer legs.  The first look would look awesome tucked into badass black leather boots; the middle look would look adorable with ankle-length brown suede booties; and the last look, as shown, would look great with black pointed-toe leather booties or moto boots.  Of these three looks, I think the first would look best for the office setting.  Top it with a leather or denim jacket to add in some difference in texture (the silky fabric of the suit combined with supple leather or tough denim would look awesome).  Simple gold jewelry, like a pretty necklace, helps sophisticates the look — save the chunkier jewelry for your day off.

Tribal prints, admittedly, are usually “louder” than florals, so don’t let them scare you off if you’re pattern-shy.  You can break up the overwhelming, full-body tribal print by adding a shell on top (cardigan, shawl, jacket) or even by belting it with a bright colored belt to add some interest to the waist and “cut off” the pattern, so to speak.

And now, for you wild children…

wildcardFrom Left: Sela Jumpsuit, $129; ASOS, $43; TopShop, $160

These jumpsuits aren’t for beginners — or for the faint of heart.  But for those girls who seek to turn-heads and experiment loudly with fashion, these jumpsuits are for you, babe!  Rompers in loud patterns, bold prints, or unexpected textiles make for a real statement piece — and you must have the confidence to rock it.

Take for example that gorgeous all-over sequin bandeau jumpsuit from TopShop.  It probably seems like the most ballsy pick, but since it contains one color (an all-over navy) and is in a classic shape, it’s actually pretty versatile to style.  The obvious choice would be to wear it to a party or cocktail event with sky-high heels and a clutch.  But you could also top it with a jean jacket, a crossbody bag and booties to dress it down.

The denim suit can work as styled, with simple nude stilettos and gold jewelry, or it can be punked out.  Unbotton the top portion to reveal a graphic tee underneath or even a flashy lace bandeau bra; wear with moto boots.  Swap out the built-in sash with a studded black belt and pair with cagey black leather heels.  Mixing denim (which is typically seen as casual) with unexpected textures (leather, lace) and adornments (studs, straps) makes it interesting.

And lastly, that floral jumpsuit.  I actually want one — it looks so comfy!  Punk it out with chunky creeper boots and a leather motorcycle jacket.  Wear it with a cut-off denim vest and sandals for a more casual-cool vibe.  Or top it with a super chunky knit sweater and equally-chunky brown clog-heels for something more boho.  And layer on those necklaces, girl!  I think a series of really pretty gold pendants layered together would look so chic.

Keep In Mind…

*Yes, curvy girls CAN wear jumpsuits, too!  Just pick one in a stretchier fabric (to help conform to curves!) & proceed with styling as normal.

*Belts can be your friend.  For anyone, steer clear of shapeless, straight up-and-down jumpsuits which can make you look like a plumber.  When in doubt, accentuate that girlie waist of yours with a skinny belt.  It not only helps nip in your waist and enhance your gorgeous figure, but it will help polish up the look or break up a pattern, if needed.

*Do a test walk in your jumpsuit to make sure it’s right for you.  Some jumpsuits can ride up when you walk, giving you a dreaded camel .. you know.  Avoid this by taking a couple laps around the fitting room to ensure your fabric doesn’t ride up in the front or back.

*And also, make sure your pants aren’t high-waters.  No one likes high-water flood-pants.  Unless the rompers are specifically cropped to be capris, make sure they’re long enough for you.  Hem if they’re too long (they shouldn’t drag on the floor; if anything, they should lightly skim the floor if you’re wearing heels).  If nothing else, go up the next size and hem those OR cuff them.

*HAVE FUN!!  You’re a sexy, beautiful, smart, CONFIDENT woman!  Wear those jumpsuits with pride!  Fashion should be fun.

Have a fantastical day!

Fashion Fridays: The BEST Jeans For Your Body!

tdr fashion friday

jeans1Let’s face it: denim jeans are an American classic.  Truly Americana.  An icon of the great United States of America.  However you want to phrase it, denim jeans are quintessentially American and such a huge staple in our daily uniform.

Gone are the days where jeans were seen as lazy or publicly unacceptable to wear.  Denim comes in so many shapes, sizes, textures, patterns, fits, styles, rinses and more that there’s practically a particular pair for any given season or occasion.  Some places even allow you to wear denim to work!  And it’s very safe to say that most Americans probably own at least one pair of jeans in their closets.

However, finding the perfect pair is a different story.  Denim is sold everywhere in America, but with the multitude of styles, shapes and sizes and the plethora of sizes that humans come in, it’s hard to find that perfect pair.  One pair of denim could make a girl look incredible, but the same pair may look another figured woman look frumpy or even trashy.  And after spending hours trying on pair after pair, shopping for an appropriate style or fit may seem more like a chore at the end of the day.

Thanks to some research (and personal experience!) I have *hopefully* taken the stress out of denim shopping for you.  I’ve tried to scout denim for virtually every body type in a decent range of price and styles.  I seriously hope you’re able to find the pair your body’s meant to wear — because once you do, it’s life-changing!

Let’s find your body type and get to shopping!

pearjeansFrom top left: Frame Denim; Old Navy Sweetheart Bootcut; Paige Denim Canyon Jean; True Religion Becky Bootcut

If you’re PEAR SHAPED, that means you generally have more oomph in your hips, rear and legs.  The key here is to balance out that lower half with the rest of your body.  Look for mid-rise styles since it helps balances out your body’s proportions and helps control some of the somethin’ extra in your hips and rear.  In addition, look for a slight bootcut — this helps elongate your legs and slims your frame.  Darker rinses also help slim and streamline your frame.

athleticjeansFrom Top Left: Ariya Curvy Bootcut; Delia’s Reese Bootcut; ModCloth You’ve Got Flare Jeans

If you have an ATHLETIC SHAPE, this means you typically have strong legs, lots of muscles, but tend to have a boyish figure.  Athletic body types should look for slimming boot-cut jeans to create the illusion of curves.  Look for boot-cut styles that are more fitted in the thighs and butt but that are relaxed at the calves and ankles with a slight flare.  The flare helps balance the proportions of your body but still helps that curvy illusion.

petiteFrom Top Left: Stella McCartney 70s Jean; Liverpool Petite Skinny; Citizens of Humanity Dita

If you have a PETITE body, look for leg lengtheners built into your denim!  High-waist trousers helps to create height to your smaller silhouette, while the wider legs adds ample volume.  For more impact, pair your flared trousers with stacked booties or heels which does wonders for your legs.  Petite frames can also rock skinny jeans with a mid or high-rise which again, balances out the smaller stature and both slims and elongates the legs.

curvyjeansFrom Top Left: ModCloth Own the Stage Jeans; Ariya Curvy Bootcut; GAP Curvy Skinny; Levi’s Curve ID Supreme Curve

If you’ve got a CURVY FRAME, look for jeans that are marketed with the word “curvy” or styles that are designed for curvier women.  These styles typically mean they’re made with curvier women in mind and typically have more stretch to the fabric (which is always awesome!).  These designs help feature your best assets and camouflage or assist your more problematic areas.  For most curvy women I’d recommend a mid-rise style with a contoured waist (which essentially means that the waist is cut higher in the back so no gaping when you sit!) or low-rise.  And for more petite curvy girls, you can rock higher waists since it helps elongate your frame and accentuates your smaller middle.

tummyappleFrom Top Left: Lee Platinum Tummy Trousers; NYJD Barbara Bootcut; Lee Platinum Tummy Control Skinny; Old Navy Dreamer Bootcut Jean

If you’re APPLE SHAPED or need tummy control, look for styles that are geared toward tummy control.  Curvy apple shapes tend to have more weight around the middle, so you need a pair of jeans that has some more give.  Seek out mid-rise styles with contoured waists (to prevent that dreaded gaping when you sit!) and with straight legs or a slight boot-cut to streamline yet enhance your figure.  Usually tummy-control jeans will be marked “tummy control” and could have possible stretch panels or even built-in slimmers within the pants.  Just stay away from high-waisted styles or overly skinny jeans as they will draw more attention to your bottom area or make you look disproportionate.

talljeansFrom Left: AEO Tall Skinny; LC Lauren Conrad Pencil Jeans; Sofie Perfect Skinny; Delia’s Olivia Jeggings

If you’re TALL, your focus should be on your gorgeous legs, girl!  Flaunt those sexy gams with slimming, straight-leg or skinny jeans with a lower-rise.  The lower-rise works on your frame since it balances out your long legs with your upper half.  Higher-waists can make you look cartoonish.  If you’re tall and lankier, try a patterned denim to create some pattern which adds interest.  You could also try a slightly flared or boot-cut style to create some curves.

HOURLGASSFrom Top Left: Old Navy Flirt Skinny; Joe’s Jeans Quinn; Delia’s Jayden Jean; GAP Legging Jean

If you’ve got an HOURGLASS FRAME, your body type is the most lenient with denim in that almost any cut can work for you.  These body types are curvy but balanced — curvy on top and on the bottom, with a nip at the waist, aka “the hourglass figure.”  Skinny jeans with stretchy material can flatter your body and help enhance your curves by hugging them the right way.  In contrast, wide-leg trousers can also work since they enhance that tiny waist of yours.  Stay away from super low-rise styles as they tend to droop and fall in the back, creating that terrible gap (or show your booty completely!) so contoured waists or mid-rises are best for you.

In general…

* Look for stretchier fabrics.  They help conform to your curves and create a silhouette as opposed to stiffer denim, which can hang and look awkward on certain body types.

* Dark washes tend to be the most flattering wash among all body types.  Darker washes slim, streamline and elongate the figure whereas lighter washes can make more problematic areas (like thicker thighs, bigger booties, and shorter legs) become more of an issue.

* If you have a flatter butt (or just would like to enhance what you’ve got) look for higher-set back pockets which give the illusion of a more shapely behind.  Or look for back pocket details, like high-contrast stitching, button-flap back pockets, or even embellishments to give some interest to the back area.

* Never underestimate the power of a great tailor!  Rarely are jeans built so that they’ll fit every body type perfectly every time.  Investing in a tailor to help hem longer hemlines or adjust inseams can drastically improve a so-so pair of jeans into ones that are meant to be on your body — literally!  Stores like Nordstrom have tailoring services for relatively cheap; sometimes free if you purchase the product in store.

* And lastly, never underestimate the power of confidence.  If you love your body and love the way you look, that positively and beauty will shine through no matter what you wear.  A great fitting pair of jeans helps boost our confidence, sure, but having that positive, beautiful personality and body image definitely helps bring the look full circle.

I hope you’ve found this denim guide helpful — now let’s outfit ourselves in this awesome American staple!

Have a fantastical day!

Fashion Fridays: How To Mix Prints

tdr fashion friday

mixprintsHappy Friday, fashionistas!

Today we’re talking about something that may be daunting for some, exciting for others.  The topic?  Mixing prints, aka one of my favorite things to do!

Long gone are the days where you couldn’t pair stripes with polka dots or plaids together.  We live in a world of diversity, versatility, color, patterns, and millions of different backgrounds… as well as the freedom to express some of those at the same time.  Like wearing British plaid with an exotic leopard print.  Or a nautical stripe with a feminine polka dot.  Freedom, people!!

Chances are you’ve seen this trend and thought there was no way you could ever pull it off — but I’m here to give you a foolproof guide to mixing different prints and patterns to look chic, not silly.  So break out the patterns — it’s time to have fun!

Rule #1. Pick prints with a similar color/colors in the print.  For instance, if you’re pairing ikat and leopard, make sure at least one of the colors matches, like beige ikat with the beige leopard.  It helps ground the patterns since they have similarities in color.  Try to make the colors as close to the same shade as possible, too.  For instance, don’t pair a navy and white striped top with a baby blue leopard bottom.  Try to keep the blues both navy, or both baby blue.

Rule #2. Pick ONE bold piece that you’ll showcase.  For instance, if your main focus is leopard print harem pants, make the printed top less of the focus.  Or if you wore a plaid shift dress, pop a gingham shirt underneath for a peek of a print — still keeps the plaid shift as the main focus.

Rule #3. Stick with TWO patterns at the most!  Mixing more than two prints can be tricky and veer into costume-y territory.  Two prints are ideal.

Rule #4. Try to keep scale in mind.  If you have a larger striped bottom, try pairing it with a smaller polka dot on top.  Pairing two different prints with relatively the same size can appear overwhelming, depending on the print.  It can work, but it’s trickier to find that appropriate print/scale balance.

Rule #5. Still afraid?  Try mixing textures instead.  If print-mixing is still too daunting, try mixing your patterns for a similar look without all the overwhelmingness of patterns.  For instance, a flowy silk top with leather pants, or a ruffled blouse and a crochet or lace skirt.

When in doubt, stripes go with nearly everything.  Stripes are one of the easiest bases for print mixing.  Stripes work with most patterns without being overwhelming.  A general rule of thumb?  Stick with black and white stripes for a classic look, or navy and white.   Colored striped tops can appear childish or too loud when mixing prints.

Now let’s pair some clothes together, shall we?!

Striped shirt: Target; Floral skirt: GoJane

Why It Works: there’s black and white in the skirt, so there are now two colors that tie in with the bottom pattern.  Plus, the skirt is your focal point in this outfit — the striped top merely acts as a neutral.  Pair this with basic black flats or even a brighter color, like yellow, and a simple camel-colored bag.

Gingham shirt: Svpply; Palenque beaded skirt: Anthropologie

Why It Works: again, here the skirt is the focal point — and how could it not be?  It’s completely beaded and full of bright colors and a punchy floral pattern.  The skirt dresses up the basic, sporty gingham shirt.  The navy & cream gingham is subtle enough that it gives the skirt enough attention.  I’d wear these with nude colored flats or booties.

mix3Plaid shirt: Polyvore; Leopard harem pants: H&M

Why It Works: I love mixing plaid and leopard print but it can be one of the trickier combinations.  In this instance, I would see the leopard harem pants as the neutral.  The tan color pulls into the plaid shirt, which I would wear unbuttoned and cuffed with a basic black shirt and gold jewelry.  The gold jewelry will help anchor the leopard.

Polka dot top: Old Navy; Striped skirt: ModCloth

Why It Works: polka dots and stripes is a foolproof way to mix patterns and is a great intro combo to pattern mixing.  The dainty, smaller dots are balanced by the graphic, bold stripes of the skirt.  Plus, the black waistband of the skirt acts almost as a belt to break up the patterns.  I’d wear this with black flats, or for a wildcard, would pair this classic combo with some brighter accessories, like a punchy yellow tote or hot pink flats.

Leopard pencil skirt, eBay

Why It Works: this is such a chic combination!  The black from the stripes and the black in the spots work together to create a really fashionable outfit.  I’d tuck the striped top into the pencil skirt and pair this outfit with bright red pumps or a bright red belt — one or the other.  The red will add the pop to break up the patterns and give this outfit a little extra personality.

Since mixed prints is becoming a bigger trend, now some designers are created pre-mixed printed pieces so there’s no guesswork!  Wondering if paisley goes with floral or polka dots with leopard?  Wonder no more!  These pieces are foolproof.

From left: Floral & Plaid: TopShop (on eBay); Double Plaid: ModCloth; Dotted Sweater Dress: Sonia Rykiel; Floral & Striped: Peter Som for Kohl’s

So… are you ready to break out your prints?!  I certainly am!  If you need more visuals, check out THIS chart I found.  The styles are hopelessly chic, flattering on virtually anyone, and are effortlessly mixed.  LOVE the striped tee with the structured floral skater skirt!  And that leopard blouse with the silk polka dot pants and red belt?  So chic.

I hope I’ve inspired you to break out your patterns to mix and match!  Remember: fashion should be fun, not stuffy, so experiment until you find something that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and YOU!

Have a fantastical day!

Fashion Fridays: StitchFix Review!!

tdr fashion friday

DSC_0807AI can guarantee one of your coworkers has done it.  And probably your best friend.  And your neighbor down the street probably just got one.  I’m talking about Stitch Fix, the online clothing subscription service that is changing the way we dress and shop, one box at a time.

How does Stitch Fix work?

Stitch Fix is a clothing subscription service for women.  When you join Stitch Fix, you’ll fill out an extensive Style Profile which helps your stylist identify your specific likes, dislikes, taste, and needs.  Are you a busy mom-on-the-go?  Your stylist will know not to include dressier items.  Hate stripes?  Indicate so in the profile and your personal stylist will leave out striped options in future boxes.  I was shocked at how comprehensive the questions are which is awesome since it helps the stylist really get to know you!

Next, you pick the date for your shipment.  You can schedule as often or as little as you’d like, but generally, most people receive a Fix once a month or so.  Your stylist will send you a mix of five fashionable pieces (clothing and accessories) on the date you choose.  At this point, you’ll be charged a $20 styling fee.  But, should you choose to keep something, the $20 will be applied as a credit toward anything you purchase (score!).

You have three days to try everything on in the comfort of your own home.  Have you ever tried something on at a store and could not think about what to pair it with?  Stitch Fix solves that problem — you now have full access to your closet to mix, match and style new outfits together with your Fix pieces.  Don’t like something?  Send it back in the prepaid envelope.  Then check out online for the items you would like to purchase.  Love everything?  Stitch Fix takes 25% off the entire purchase.

Last but not least, Stitch Fix relies heavily on user feedback.  If you thought your stylist could have styled you better, tell her so in the feedback section on the website.  Give explicit, detailed advice about what you loved and disliked about each piece to help them better understand your style and expectations so your next Fix is the nail on the head.

My Fix.

I know you’re curious about my box, so allow me to model each of my pieces for you!

DSC_0780AFirst up: Papermoon Pasadena Crochet Front Short Sleeve Blouse, $48
What I thought: I loved the bright, punchy cantaloupe color of this fun blouse.  The crochet front is beautifully done and highly detailed — it almost gave it an ethnic vibe which is so fun for summer.  The scalloped sleeves and hem is sweet and feminine without being too much.  And I loved the sheer silk back.  The only issue was the fact that it was quite short.  I have both long legs and a long torso, and shorter blouses don’t work for me.  I had to regretfully send back.

DSC_0790AMarket & Spouse Tabitha Embellished Cotton Shirt, $58
What I thought: I loved the stretchy, soft fabric of this cotton shirt.  I liked the higher cuts on the sides and the ruched sleeves, but found the embellished collar to be a bit much (I prefer to embellish my collarbone with statement necklaces!).  Plus, I wasn’t much a fan of the greige-y color.  Sent back.

DSC_0784AKut From The Kloth Kate Distressed Boyfriend Jean, $78
What I thought: I was hopelessly in LOVE with these jeans, yet so sure they weren’t going to fit.  But they fit like a charm.  The waist wasn’t digging into my muffin top and the length was perfect (they are full-length jeans, but I cuffed them for the pictures because I prefer my boyfriend jeans cuffed — it gives them a more relaxed vibe which boyfriend jeans should be!).  The color wasn’t too bright or light (a peeve of mine) and the jeans were soft and stretchy, like I’d had them forever.  I wanted so badly to keep them, but unfortunately even with the $20 styling credit, I couldn’t afford $58 jeans at the moment.  However, when payday rolls around, I’m going to try to purchase them — they are AWESOME!!!

DSC_0798A41Hawthorn Ria Multi Stripe Maxi Dress, $98
What I thought: I wanted to love this dress, but I couldn’t.  It was made of one of my favorite materials — a stretchy jersey — that I feel works yearround in California.  Plus, I love the graphic stripes!  But unfortunately I don’t think I had the proper body type for this dress.  I felt like my hips stood out too much, and wasn’t a fan of the thicker banded bust.  So I sent it back.

DSC_0805AZad Shawna Chain & Beaded Bib Necklace, $48
What I thought: I thought this graphic, exotic looking necklace was awesome!  It reminded me of something that would be handmade at at a street fair in Morocco or somewhere overseas.  Statement-making but still subtle enough for work, it’s super versatile and I loved the delicate details in all of the beadwork.  However, unfortunately I have something very similar, so I had to return this.

Status: I kept 0/5 pieces, but I will be returning to purchase the Kut From The Kloth jeans — they were just too amazing to pass up!

DSC_0777AFinal Thoughts.

In addition to your five pieces, Stitch Fix also includes a personalized note from your stylist, as well as fun outfit idea cards in each package.  I loved these outfit idea cards because they give you a couple examples of how to wear each piece in the hopes that you’ll get some ideas about how to style certain things.  This would be especially helpful for someone trying to develop their own style or who may love a wildcard piece, but not quite know what to pair with it.

DSC_0808AIn addition to receiving a bunch of steal deals (25% off if you purchase everything, $20 credit if you purchase something) and unique, stylish clothes & accessories, Stitch Fix also offers incentive to continue shopping and spread the fashionable wealth.  If you sign up with Stitch Fix and refer friends, you’ll receive a $25 styling credit.  It’s as simple as that!  You’re basically being paid to shop 🙂 who wouldn’t like that?!

My final thoughts?  I absolutely love Stitch Fix and would recommend it to everyone.  Here’s a more broken down reason why I love it so:

1) Because the comprehensive styling questionnaire is so detailed, you can tailor it exactly to your styling preferences, body type, budget, etc.
2) Because you’re essentially being paid to shop.  There are discount possibilities left and right; not to mention, each piece is hand-picked by an expert stylist and include pieces that you won’t find at any mainstream department store.
3) Even though I didn’t purchase anything from my first Fix, I still felt like my stylist Jenni had a pretty good concept of things I’d like.  My style is harder to pin down (part cupcake, part Betsey Johnson, part punk rock, part cartoon character) but she seemed to pick pieces I would easily be able to rock.
4) I love that you can schedule it whenever you want.  Monthly, bimonthly, or even more frequently or rarely.  So awesome, and who doesn’t love a nice treat when they get home from work?
5) The customer service.  Stitch Fix is notorious for their impeccable customer service.  They truly value the feedback you give them after each Fix so they can better style and serve you and others.  The fact that they read every feedback form and care about what their customers say about them says a lot about their company.

Are you ready to go shopping?!

Sit back, relax, fill out your profile, and wait for your Fix to come!  Be sure to use THIS LINK to sign up — it gives me credit toward those jeans I love so much 😉

And be sure to connect with Stitch Fix online on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook & Instagram.

Have a fantastic, fashionable Friday!!

Fashion Fridays: Talking Tieks — Tieks Flats Review!

tdr fashion friday

DSC_0822AHey fashionistas, & Happy Fashion Friday!

If there’s one thing a girl loves, it’s shoes — specifically, shoes that fit well, are super comfortable and look good.  Girls also like unicorns and the ability to eat cake without calories.  However, one of these things is true — and it’s the comfy, stylish shoe made by Tieks. (I asked Tieks about what they could do to help with the calorie-free cake problem and they said they’re looking into it).

You may have heard of Tieks, as they’re sweeping the interwebs (food bloggers especially) by storm.  It seems everyone has an Instagram photo of their Tieks-clad footsies and I wanted to get to the bottom of this shoe obsession, 1) because I’ll use any excuse to shop, and 2) because in my former life I was Harriet the Spy.

DSC_0815ATieks has reinvented the ballet flat by using high-quality materials and merging the gaps between stylish shoes and comfortable shoes by creating a pair that has it all.  Each pair of Tieks takes three days to create from start-to-finish and is made of the finest and highest quality custom Italian leather for durability and style.  The brown leather outsole is treated to be more flexible than other full-grain leathers, but is still durable and sturdy enough for every-day wear.  Tieks are made with non-skid rubber patches and a cushioned instep to assure that each step you take in your Tieks will be comfortable and supportive with an enhanced foam cushion for long-term wear.  And get this, blister-getters: the backs of Tieks are cushioned rather than elasticized which ensures Tieks are never too tight on your heel.  Yay for banished blisters!

DSC_0826AEach pair of Tieks also comes with a special pouch to store your Tieks, as well as a reusable, lightweight and foldable tote bag to carry around heels, groceries, an extra change of clothes — whatever you desire!  And Tieks are extremely flexible — they are able to fold up within themselves for compact storage and portability — just think about packing them in a suitcase — your Kindle would take up more room!  Just fold them up, place them in their portable pouch and slip them in your work bag to transition from your heel-hell after the end of a long work day.

Okay, okay — enough with the business talk.  How do I really feel about my Tieks?

tieks2I. Love. Them.

I love flats, but flats are notorious for being horribly uncomfortable after a couple hours of wear.  Not to mention, my feet have ZERO arch — I am the flattest footed person I know which makes it hideously impossible to ever find a pair of supportive and stylish shoes that don’t make me want to amputate my feet at the end of a long day.  I usually pop in insoles (which frankly only help marginally) or deal with the aches (whiskey also helps me forget the pain).  So I was skeptical that foldable shoes would really offer the support I needed.

DSC_0783ASo I did what any researcher would do: I wore my brand new shoes to a night of dancing.  Seriously.  And for hours and hours into the night, I danced constantly, bopping around on my tip toes, tapping my feet to the music with zero pain.  I felt barefoot but better than barefoot because I felt supported all night long.  I didn’t leave with blisters, I didn’t leave with aches, and the next day my feet felt fine.  I was shocked: surely all the drinking I did that night must have masked my pain, right?

Nope!  The next day (and the following days after) I ran errands and went on shopping sprees while sporting my Tieks.  Again, no rubbing, no blisters, no aches & pains.  Tieks supported my tootsies the entire time, cushioning each step with the supple leather backing and kept me stable and sturdy with the thick turquoise split-sole.  Seriously — it is the unicorn of shoes, y’all.

DSC_0816AThe worst part about Tieks?  Choosing which color or style you want!  I was so tempted to choose a basic black or nude, but decided that I should go outside of the basics and choose something funky and wild.  I went with Electric Snake, a bright and punky rainbow snakeskin pattern that seriously goes with anything.  Boasting colors of teal, orange, pink, purple, lime and yellow, they’re eye-catching, statement-making and fun, just like their wearer 🙂 however, a close runner up was Starstruck for its gorgeous green-and-gold luminous shine.  Next I want to get Pop Pink or Lavender Patent!  They even have Vegan Options (how cute are these Vegan Polka Dot Tieks?!)

DSC_0820ATieks start from $175 and some pairs go up to $295, depending on the style or treatment of the leather.  Yes, I know not everyone has $200 to drop on a pair of flats, but think of this: if you were shoe shopping and constantly bought a $40 pair of flats every couple months because they inevitably wore out, you’d eventually end up spending close to one pair of Tieks which are far more durable, flexible and comfortable than a standard pair of flats.  Essentially, the cost is more up front, but the wearability and mileage you get from each pair far exceeds the cost.  Therefore, I think it’s more cost-effective to get a pair of Tieks if you’re looking to treat yourself — and your feet!  Plus, no more purchasing additional insoles!

Final verdict: I would absolutely, positively buy Tieks again and would recommend them to anyone — busy moms on the go, stylish friends, people always on their feet, travelers, etc.  They’re a great, versatile and comfortable shoe that packs well, offers stability and support and looks adorable!  The fun colors and styles are eye-catching and transition with any outfit; a truly timeless shoe with a fun, modern spin.  I love my Tieks!

Be sure to connect with Tieks online by visiting their STORE, or checking them out on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER & PINTEREST.  Thanks for reading!  Now… which color do YOU want?!

xo, Hayley

In the interest of full disclosure, I purchased my Tieks on my own and all opinions are 100% my own.  I was not compensated monetarily or otherwise for this product review.

Fashion Fridays — My Top, All-Time Beauty Favorites!

tdr fashion fridayHappy Friday, friends!  Who doesn’t love makeup?!

However, I get it — sometimes shopping for makeup can be daunting, annoying even.  How will you know if it looks right on your skintone?  What if the color is too intense, or too sheer?  Will this mascara really lengthen my lashes?  Sometimes the experimentation just seems exhaustive, so we stick to our basics… which is totally fine, too.  Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Today I’m sharing with you my absolute must-have, all-time FAVORITE beauty products!  These are things I swear by — tried and true products I wear religiously — some of them I’ve been wearing for years and highly recommend them for anyone.

So whether you’re looking for a new favorite mascara OR if you’re dying to try something new, take a peep at my list and hopefully you’ll find a new favorite! 🙂

Let’s start with the canvas — your Face.

face1Foundation/Primer: Benefit Big Easy Liquid to Powder Foundation with SPF 35, $38
Why I love it: I used to never wear foundation, but one day while getting my brows tweezed at Benefit, I figured I’d give this a try and I quickly fell in love.  It’s a fantastic summertime foundation since it’s super lightweight and sheer, which allows you to build up your coverage as needed.  One of my biggest irks about foundation is the heaviness, cakey-texture, or the fact that it feels like my face is being suffocated.  Big Easy is light, has a smooth, satiny liquid-to-powder finish that stays put, and makes my face still feel fresh.  Plus, I can still see my freckles — which is a big deal to me!  And I LOVE that is has a built in primer, moisturizer and SPF.

Concealer: Benefit Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer, $20
Why I love it: they aren’t joking about the strength of this one-pot wonder.  It seamlessly covers any blemish or imperfection without being cakey or heavy.  Pat it on undereye circles or use it to combat redness or discoloration.  It layers fabulously with Big Easy, but also works as a spot-treatment on naked skin.

Concealer #2: Physician’s Formula Gentle Cover Green Concealer Stick, $6
Why I love it: this simple green stick helps combat redness, especially from pesky pimples.  I like dabbing this lightweight green concealer on my blemishes first, then topping with Boi-ing for extra strength protection.  Or, sometimes when I’m especially lazy to do my makeup, I’ll only use this concealer and pat it in well — that’s it.

Blush: NYX Stick Blush in Magnolia, $5
Why I love it: in the summertime, powder blush is far too heavy and well, powdery.  A cream blush is blendable, melt-proof and stays put.  I love this blush stick by NYX because it’s inexpensive and offers a bright, fun pop of color.  Magnolia is a flawless pink shade that would work fabulously on any skin tone.

If eyes are the windows to the soul, you better make sure your window frame looks decent!  Let’s talk Eyes, aka my FAVORITE beauty products!

For Eyebrows: Benefit Gimme Brow Tinted Brow Gel, $22
Why I love it: lots of people are good with coloring in their brows with pencils or wax — I am not one of those people.  This tinted brow gel by Benefit offers more control (yay!) and a light wash of color that looks natural and enhances your brows beautifully.  I truly believe that eyebrows can make or break a face, so locking my hairs in place with this gel while simultaneously tinting and accentuating them, brings my entire look together whether or not I’m wearing any additional makeup.

Eyeshadow #1: Urban Decay Eyeshadows (Vice 2 Palette Pictured), $varies
Why I love it: Urban Decay’s eyeshadows are absolutely unparalleled.  If you haven’t given them a try, you’re seriously missing out!  Highly pigmented, intense and pure color that’s easily blendable and layered.  I love buying Urban Decay’s shadow palettes because they’re usually a great bargain (a single shadow is usually $17, while the palettes (with up to 10+ shades) are only $50 and they last a long time.

Eyeshadow #2: NYX Hot Singles Eyeshadows, $3 each
Why I love it: if budget-friendly is more your jam (and really, who doesn’t love bargain beauty deals?!) then meet your new fave eye shadows by NYX!  I love these Hot Singles because they’re a great way to grab a fun, new shade or experiment without investing a ton of money or buying an entire palette.  I typically wear Sin, a light pink champagne-colored shadow, and Happy Hour, a matte medium brown shadow, on a daily basis because they’re neutral and accentuate my eyes.

Liquid Eyeliner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, $18
Why I love it: I’m known for my signature cat eyes, which I’ve worn daily for almost 10 years now.  Over the years, I found that kohl pencils are good, but liquid eyeliner pens are best for achieving those perfectly flicked cat eyes.  They’re bolder, stay put longer and are far more precise than any of the sharpest kohl pencils.  If you have previously found liquid liner to be a nuisance, open your eyes to liner felt-tip pens.  MUCH easier to control than a little wand, much faster dry time, and incredible, super dark, inky lines that last all day and night.  Kat’s is my favorite by far!

Eyeshadow Primer: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $20
Why I love it: I used to be an eyeshadow primer skeptic.  It seemed like an unnecessary beauty product to me.  However, I received a sample of Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in one of my first palettes and gave it a go — I was hooked.  Urban Decay’s Primer Potion glides on effortlessly and blends seamlessly, providing a great, smooth base for eyeshadows to stick to — all while keeping them in place through sweat, heat, tears, and more.  It’s a shadow-life saver!

Highlighter: Benefit High Brow Highlighting Pencil, $20
Why I love it: again, another product I thought was pointless — the highlighter.  However, after trying a sweep of this creamy, champagne-pink highlighter under my brow bones, I was done for.  It instantly perks up your eyes, making you look younger, healthier, more-rested and brighter with one simple sweep.  It blends very well and totally lifts everything up and enhances your brow’s natural shape.  Just be warned, though — you better have some killer brows to rock this pencil!

Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara, $8
Why I love it: if there’s one beauty product I couldn’t live without, it would be mascara.  I LOVE THE STUFF and wear it daily, even to the gym.  Why?  Because it perks me up with one simple swoop of the spoolie and it’s an effortless, speedy way to look polished without anything else on.  I decided to give this mascara a try since the advertisements boasted long, exaggerated lashes similar to the Kawaii-manga characters who typically have thick, long eyelashes framing their large eyes — and y’all, this mascara rocks.  It has this fun, fancy bendable brush that conforms to the curves of your lashes and eye, ensuring the brush hits every single lash.  And the formula is sticky and potent, extending each lash to new heights all while thickening and darkening the color.  It seriously looks like false lashes from a bottle.  Genius.

I recently did a review selfie on Instagram of the Miss Manga mascara.. LOOK AT MY LASHES!  They are a mile long! 🙂

mangagirlMascara #2 (not pictured): L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara, $6
Why I love it: prior to meeting Miss Manga, I was a loyal fan to the classic L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluminous.  Of all of the mascaras that claimed to lengthen, thicken and give the impression of lush, false lashes, Voluminous was the only one who was true to those testaments.  I constantly received compliments on my amazing length or pretty eyelashes and would happily point people in the direction of this easy, drugstore mascara.  The best part is that it’s buildable, so you can add a couple strokes to enhance and give your lashes great separation and definition, or continue to build with more formula for thicker, lusher lashes.

Last but not least, let’s pucker up with some awesome Lip goodies!

Lip Balm: Maybelline Baby Lips, $3
Why I love it: this new cult-favorite is a favorite of mine because it works!  The non-greasy, non-slick and non-shiny formula instantly perks up my lips shape and the way they feel, smoothing any roughness while offering awesome moisture and softness.  And it’s CHEAP.  Holla!

Lip Plumper/Gloss: Hard Candy Plumping Serum, $6
Why I love it: I’m not a huge fan of lip glosses, but occasionally I’ll wear one if I’m feeling particularly fancy.  I love this plumping and voluminizing version by Hard Candy, which is one of my favorite drugstore brands.  It plumps without being over the top and offers a nice sheen without being goopy.  I love the Nude Beach color!

Lipstick: Maybelline Color Whisper in Petal Rebel, $6
Why I love it: occasionally I’ll perk up my look with a wash of color — lipstick is a great way to achieve that without looking too over-done.  I love this lipstick from Maybelline because it’s lightweight, offers a buildable coverage and has a great range of colors.  It also doesn’t dry my lips out (big no-no) and stays put.  Once the top layer is gone, it still gives my lips a nice sheer tint that I love.  Petal Rebel is a fun pink color that doesn’t look too cutesy but isn’t so bright that it’s jarring.

So there you have it: my all-time, everyday beauty favorites that I couldn’t live without!  I hope you are able to test them out and realize you love them just as much as I do, because they’re seriously the greatest (especially that new Miss Manga mascara — I am obsessed).  What are some of your favorite beauty products?  Links welcome; let me know in the comments! 🙂

Have a beautiful day!

xo, Hayley
