This is extremely tasty, but like others I encountered challenges making them.

Adding half the heath bits into the toffee mixture made it way too thick to mix into the pretzels. By the time I was done, I had maybe 10 large pretzel clumps and 20% of the pretzels were on the less-covered side.

Similarly, the oven time didn't heat them enough to thin the mixture out for better stirring and coverage. At the 30 minute mark, I tried 250 degrees, and at 45 minutes, 275. It didn't help.

My workaround was to get a pair of nitrile gloves and as I spread them to cool on wax paper, I broke the clumps apart. It was a little hot but I moved fast and that was a big help.

I also didn't feel like the heath bits sprinkled on the pretzels after leaving the oven melted/stuck well.

I may try next time doubling the toffee mixture and skipping the heath bits.

I made these and they came out perfect! Note: you can't let the toffee mixture sit. I stirred the whole time and then poured it in a spread out fashion to cover the pretzles more evenly. I used a wide bowl not deep.
I also made the same toffee mixture and instead of heath bar bits I used Andes peppermint crunch for a different twist. They were excellent and everyone loved them!

I wish I had read your comment earlier as I turned up my oven to 250 degrees and cooked about 1 and a half hours. Not sure I think the effort will be worth it.

I had the same problem with the toffee hardening before the pretzels were coated. After an hour in the 200 oven ... still a clumpy mess, with lots of pretzels not even coated. So, I just poured the out on parchment sheet, pulled out the ones ghat didn't have any coating (or very little), and broke up the rest in bite size pieces. They tasted amazing, but sure weren't pretty. I will try, as per comments, 250 oven and 300 for the last 15 min, and hopefully have a better result. Please amend recipe so others don't have this problem. Thank you!

Hi Melanie, no, you need to bake the pretzels with the toffee mixture on there to really get them coated. A toaster oven may work, but I don't work with them so I can't say how long it would need to bake in there for.

I’m making these now for the third time (double batch!). They are delicious and super easy. I turn the temperature up to 225 as I find it helps me make sure all the pretzels are coated. I’ve also had lots of the heath bar bits that don’t stick. Today I poured the whole bag on top of pretzels BEFORE I poured the toffee on. That worked perfectly to have them stick to the pretzels/toffee. Thanks so much! My husband and son (and I) totally enjoy these!
