Some of you may know from prior posts, but I cook dinner for my family every single night.
And have since I was 14. I’m now 25. That means I’ve been cooking for over a decade. I feel supremely old and exhausted.
ANYWAY.
Lately, I’ve been in such a major cooking rut. I feel like we eat the same 5 things week after week, and honestly, I’m just over the whole cooking bit. I love baking – that’s where my heart lies – and some days I’ll spend the entire day in the kitchen baking up a storm for my blog… only to return to the kitchen an hour later to have to cook dinner, too. It’s exhausting!
So when I found out my dear friend Phi from Sweet Phi wrote a cookbook called Fast & Easy Five-Ingredient Recipes – A Cookbook for Busy People, I was like YASSSS. FINALLY, someone understands my life and my quarter-life crisis!
Phi’s book is packed with amazing five-ingredient recipes based on her super popular Five-Ingredient Fridays series which she created on her blog. The idea is genius – and it’s truly only five ingredients, minus pantry essentials like salt & pepper or oil.
Dinners like Pepperoni Pizza Pockets, Beef Stroganoff (yes, only 5 ingredients!), Unfried Cornflake Chicken, and Spinach Alfredo Lasagne fill the pages of this glorious beacon of hope (er, cookbook).
And of course – there is dessert! Desserts like Butterscotch Cornflake Clusters, Peanut Butter Sea Salt Cookies, Jam Crumb Bars, and of course, this outrageous Frozen Bananas Foster.
This tastes just like the classic old-timey Bananas Foster dessert but better because it’s frozen, doesn’t require igniting anything, and is cheaper than going to Louisiana. Loaded with banana, vanilla ice cream, bourbon and caramel, it’s one sweet treat after a long day of cooking 🙂

Frozen Bananas Foster
Ingredients
- 2 bananas
- 1 cup vanilla ice cream
- 1 cup milk
- 4 ounces bourbon optional, but recommended
- 1 cup ice
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- In a large blender, combine the bananas, vanilla ice cream, milk, bourbon (if using) and ice. Blend on HIGH power for about 1 minute or until smooth.
- Drizzle each glass liberally with caramel sauce and pour in the frozen drink. Garnish with a banana slice.
- NOTE: this makes 2 very generous glasses, or four smaller glasses depending on the size of your glassware.
Icy, caramel-y, chilly, banana goodness! I am in love with this Frozen Bananas Foster!
Be sure to check out Philia’s cookbook next week when it launches in stores on July 19th! Or you can always pre-order it NOW on Walmart, Boswell Books, Amazon, Indiebound, and Barnes & Noble. I have goosebumps right now. Your post is AMAZING! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I am right there with you on sometimes being “over” the whole making an elaborate dinner. I want something that is not going to take hours upon hours and use every single bowl/dish/pan I have in my house lol, so I’m SO HAPPY that that came across. You seriously listed like ALL of my favorites (ok, well, the cookbook contains all my faves lol), and when you said that you didn’t have to ignite anything or go down to Louisiana for this dessert, I just about died laughing. THANK YOU so much for sharing about my cookbook, truly, so much love and appreciation!
