After discovering your Oreo Overload Cake a couple years ago, your cakes have been our go-to recipes for birthdays. My daughter’s sixth birthday was yesterday so I decided to Frankenstein a couple of your recipes to make her cake. I originally planned to do this rainbow poke cake but didn’t find food coloring that I liked in time (aka I procrastinated) so I bought the Betty Crocker rainbow chip cake and followed the cake portion of this recipe from there.
My biggest change was that I used your frosting recipe from your Oreo Overload cakes instead of just using Cool Whip. I topped it with crushed golden Oreos (I couldn’t find the golden birthday cake ones anywhere) and sprinkles but also folded crushed golden Oreos and sprinkles into the frosting like the Oreo Overload recipe. It turned out great and my family loved it!

I could only find white cake mix with pudding in it will it be a big difference?

In reply to Mindy. Hey Mindy! Hopefully I got to this in time, but it should be okay! You could try the poke cake and just keep it in the fridge until the last possible second, OR just frost it with the Cool Whip and omit the scmilk. Let me know how it turned out either way!

I am making this right now and it looks so cool. But, silly me, didn’t read how long it has to set. I only have about3.5 hours. Will it still be ok to serve or should I just make it a ‘normal’ cake instead of a poke cake? Thanks for the idea!!!!
