I am a nosy voyeur. I am kind of obsessed with people watching and I like knowing weird information about people. Helps me justify my weird habits, I suppose.
Anyway, after seeing this adorable ABC’s of Me on Sweet Bellaroos, I totally had to do it for myself. You know, so you guys can validate me.
A} Age: 21.
B} Bed Size:Â Twin.
C} Chore you dislike:Â I have always had a burning hatred for emptying the dishwasher. Doing the dishes is fine, and so is vacuuming. But damn that emptying.
D} Dogs:Â My sweet Mannie is my own, and our family dog is Oreo. They’re buddies.
E} Essential start to your day:Â Unsweetened iced black tea. I’m not cool enough to be a coffee drinker yet, so tea is my go-to. And Diet Coke.
F} Favorite Colors:Â Bubblegum pink! I also super love jewel tones.
G} Gold or Silver:Â White gold.
H} Height:Â Five eight!
I} Instruments you play (past/present):Â I used to take piano lessons from this rather large woman who smelled of some choking perfume. She also had a million cats and probably was the perfect candidate for animal hoarders, so my lessons were short-lived as my sneezing interfered with my home keys placement. And in middle school band I played the timpani.
J} Job Title: I work 5 days a week at a specialty cheese shop. And I blog.. obviously.
K} Kids:Â Zero, and honestly, I have every intention of keeping it that way. Kids just aren’t for me.
L} Live:Â In sunny California!
M} Mom’s name: Sonya
N} Nicknames: Haystack (ugh), Skye (my middle name), and… Poop/Poopbutt. Okay, so a long time ago, my family randomly started using “Poop” as an affectionate term for our dogs, and suddenly it started being used for us, too. So yeah, it’s gross calling someone you love a “poop” or “poopy pants”, but whatever. The weird thing about it is, if I want to talk to my dad and I say “hey poop” around everyone else, my dad will acknowledge it. Same goes for if my mom says “hey poop” to me, etc. It’s like we have Poop ESP or something.
O} Overnight hospital stays:Â Nevah.
P} Pet Peeves:Â My entire blog could be a neverending spout of peet peeves. However, I super hate: slow drivers/texting while driving/slow anything (I’m impatient)/people who are rude to waiters/food service or think they’re superior to us/migraines/people who smell bad/unvacuumed floors/screaming or misbehaved children/extreme awkward situations.. just to name a few.
Q} Quote from a Movie:Â “Everybody knows Custer died in the Battle of Little Big Horn. What this book presupposes is, maybe he didn’t?” Royal Tenenbaums. Best. Movie. EVER.
R} Righty or Lefty:Â I am dominantly right handed but I drive with my left hand.
S} Siblings:Â An 18-year old brother and a 14-year old sister
T} Time you wake up:Â Usually around 7, if I’m lucky. I have this genetic incapability of sleeping in.
U} URL favorite these days: Kinda stupidly addicted to Pinterest. And GoJane. I’m always browsing 🙂 and ThoughtCatalog. Dammit, it’s good.
V} Vegetables you don’t like: Canned green beans–ick! Otherwise, I like it all!
W} What makes you run late:Â It’s silly but, it’s because sometimes I get caught up in what outfit to wear, so it’s usually me second-third-or-fifteenth-guessing my outfit or accessories. No, I am NOT lying.
X} X-Rays:Â Head, teeeeeeef, knees (that I can remember)
Y} Yesterday memory: Watching a new episode of my guilty-pleasure show, I Survived… It’s SOFREAKINGGOODOMG.
Z} Zoo Animal Favorite:Â Zebras!
Last but not least.. Caramel Marshmallow Butterscotch Bars: Amazing. Simply amazing.
A cakey base topped with puffy, golden, gooey marshmallows, rich butterscotch chips and a salty drizzle of caramel. In other words, get in my belleh. You need these in yo life.
Caramel Marshmallow Butterscotch Bars *adapted from The Ultimate Cake Mix Cookbook
1 box yellow cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 bag miniature marshmallows
1 & 1/2 cups butterscotch chips
About 1/2 cup caramel sundae sauce
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Liberally grease a 13×9 inch baking pan with cooking spray; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, butter and brown sugar with a rubber spatula until blended. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan and bake for approx. 14-18 minutes or until golden and just set in the center.
3. Top the bars with marshmallows and butterscotch chips evenly. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until marshmallows are just beginning to puff and become golden. Allow pan to cool completely.
4. Drizzle top of bars with caramel sauce; cut into bars. Store at room temperature, wrapped airtight, for an additional 1-2 days. These taste great at room temperature or warm.
These bars are totally delish! I’m typically not a big marshmallow fan, but when they’re puffy and gooey, they’re one of my faves. Paired with the drizzled caramel and rich butterscotch, these bars were one of our favorites. Super yummy!!
Hope you enjoy; have a fantastic Saturday!
xo, Hayley

these bars remind me of one of my fave bars, ever! That i just linked up today. Yellow cake is just…so good! And with marshmallow & caramel – oh yayyyyy!
5 days a week at a specialty cheese shop = I did not know that! Okay, here’s one for you…what’s a good cheese to melt in a crockpot to make a cheese dip with that *will not break the bank* No $15-20 bricks of gruyere for a dip for the family. I was at TJs today and the guy was telling me that’s the only way to go and I was like but it will cost me $18 for enough cheese to make a dip! not.happening. lol

Have you thought of using havarti? I think it melts really well and tastes great. I’m sure even a mild cheddar would work well, too! Gruyere is just a fancy Swiss; I’m sure you could use a little if you wanted that flavor to stretch it out. I def know what you mean though, cheese is expensive! If you ever get the chance to try cheese for kicks, I recommend Old Amsterdam. It’s a DELICIOUS, strong aged gouda with salt crystals inside. Amazing!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
I love havarti – I could use that. I wanted it to have a cheddary vibe but was scared that I’d end up with an oily pile…rather than smooth melted cheese 🙂 I love gouda, too. I love really well aged cheeses…all bitter and stinky. They are the deal. lol
I used to buy blocks of cheese from specialty cheese shops, WFs, I ordered cheese online…I used to eat it all. But I never used to melt the really good stuff. I’d eat it. With wine 🙂
The Domestic Rebel says
I need to try cheese and wine pairings but actually have only very limited experience. My first year of college I took a food and wine class, and I was only 19 so technically I couldn’t drink 🙂 now I don’t remember what went well with anything lol. Anyway, you could definitely try a mild cheddar or even a white cheddar. White Diamond is a bit pricey but is a delicious harder cheddar, or there are “cheaper” alternatives out there like Dubliner which is quite good.

Hi Hayley! Ok so since I have terrible blog envy I am going to give trying out my own blog a shot since my friends and fam keep telling me I can do this….so I was thinking I could do a week of “my favorite blogs” recipes. Since these look totally amazing and I’m making them today, I am asking your permission to tag them and put them on my new blog. What do you think? This is totally a learning process for me, but figure I have to start somewhere, and since I make pretty much everything you post what better place! Let me know! Thanks as usual 🙂
