The Friday Roundup

Happy Friday, everyone!!

This week threw me off because Monday was a holiday which is kind of weird since I normally have Mondays off and therefore, it wasn’t any different than any other week for me, but regardless, I was utterly confused come Tuesday and maybe cried once or twice.

Because I thought it was Monday. And it was actually Tuesday. You see where I’m going with this?

I love my family, but when they’re off work and school on normal days, I really dislike it intensely. They’re messy and loud and hog the TV and they don’t care if there are stray crumbs on the counter whereas I’m like OH MY GOD DON’T YOU NOTICE THIS MICROSCOPIC CRUMB RIGHT HERE? THE KITCHEN IS SORDID. YOU GUYS DISGUST ME. GO ROLL IN SOME SLOP WHILE I DISINFECT EVERYTHING.

So anyway, while I was having a (major) panic attack over the dog hair composing itself into miniature puppies in my kitchen and baseball on TV ALL.EFFING.DAY, I somehow lost track of the fact that this wasn’t Sunday, but Monday. And I had work Tuesday and it was really lame and I ended up having one of those murdery days where I came home and baked cookies so I wouldn’t punch someone in the face with a sock full of nails.

But this week was also a good week because it was Circus Animal Cookie Week and every mortal loves those pink & white sprinkly cookies. I’m convinced probably immortal people love them as well, but I don’t know because I’ve never spoken to one.

A lot of you also told me that these cookies are or were important to your childhood as well–and I’m so glad I could bring back some fond memories of these sprinkly treats and reinvent them for you!

To kick off Circus Animal Cookie Week the right way, I made some ice cream:

And then I made some truffles. Actually, scratch that. They aren’t just truffles. They’re magic truffles. Because I fooled you all and I’m actually immortal and yes, we do love animal cookies.

And then I totally stuffed those cookies in a pie against their will (but they loved it and so did I).

Oh, oh! And don’t forget about krispy treats. Those treats have it all, man.

Seriously, Circus Animal Cookie Week has been one of my best life decisions yet, right up there with deciding to loathe Kristen Stewart indefinitely after all (ugh, can another woman out-ugly K-Stew in facial expressions? I think not), and inventing sliced bread (wait, I didn’t actually invent sliced bread? Whatever, this is MY BLOG and I INVENTED SLICED BREAD DAMMIT).

Believe it or not, I’m not the only blog here in Blogland. There are TONS of creative people out to get me making yummy things in this crazy, butter-filled universe I live in. So in order to spread the love and avoid looking completely narcissistic, I’m going to start a little feature each Friday of “Breaking News in Blogland” or BNB for short (which is ironically the acronym for ‘bad news bears’ which I will say when something bad happens–again, these bloggers are out to get me!! SO creative).

This week, on “Breaking News in Blogland”…

*Sally from Sally’s Baking Addiction made these Baked Cinnamon Bun Donuts and I almost died. I say ‘almost’ because I held on to my will to live simply because I hadn’t yet made these and desperately need to. BTW, this is my new fave blog. It’s kind of creepy.
*Back For Seconds created this Cinnamon Toffee Chex Mix that I may or may not have had for dinner one night since miraculously I had all the ingredients on hand. I call that the best dinner ever.
*My BFF Dorothy made these Chocolate Cake Ball Stuffed Peanut Butter Cupcakes and um, do I need to explain why we’re BFFs?
*And the super sweet Nikki from Chef in Training made these outrageous Nutella Pretzel Brownies and that’s when I had an epiphany and immediately drove to the store to buy a jar or three of Nutella.

Well, that does it for this installment of The Friday Roundup. But please be warned that I consider a week Sunday to Saturday, and since technically tomorrow is still part of Circus Animal Cookie Week, there will be another Circus Animal Cookie post tomorrow and it rhymes with ‘shmeescake’. And it’s ohsogood. So I hope you’ll join me back here tomorrow morning!

Until then, TGIF and Happy Friday!!

xo, Hayley

Btw, it drives me bonkers when people leave messes all over the place. Like, I seriously go a little crazy if my house isn’t neat and clean….
I loved Circus animal week. You forced me into buying some to make those truffles with, but dangit, I ate them all!! Now I need another box to actually bake with.

  3. Wow… I think just reading your blog has given me a bit of a sugar high!

One day after introduction and I am OBSESSED with your blog!!! I sense a lot of baking in my very near future!!!! You are just as creative as I remember! You have officially inspired/motivated me to 1. bake A LOT of really yummy desserts and 2. finally get my Nikon and start shooting.. and for that, I thank you!! I read in one of your blogs that you have to have a voice while blogging, and you do just that! It’s like you’re talking to me as I’m reading! AMAZING! Anyways, hope you’ve been well and I look forward to drooling over your up and coming recipes 🙂

    • I’m so glad you found me again, Katie; I was just thinking about the good ol’ days in high school with our little group and was wondering what you were up to. Duude, if you have a Nikon you should totally be shooting with it–and take pictures of all your awesome baked goods!

  5. I love your Friday Roundups, and I love the new “Breaking News in Blogland.” Awesome! Have a great weekend–drink a midori sour or two for me. 🙂

    Ok, so…

    1. I freakin’ LOVE Circus Animal Cookies.
    2. All this stuff looks DELISH. Aaaaand now I’m starving. Thanks.
    3. I always wondered…who eats all this delicious goodness that you make? Surely someone has developed diabetes by now? I only ask because if I baked as often as you do….I’m pretty sure Broc AND my entire family would’ve developed that shit.

    • Hahahhaa true, I am surprised no one in my family is dead from a sugar coma. Seriously. But my dad will take the treats to school to share with coworkers or good students, or my mom will take them to work, or I will, or sometimes we all hella love what I make and we all eat it. But usually, it gets spread around 🙂
