And just like 19 years ago when she was four years old and that picture was taken candidly, that ballerina still wears tutus, randomly breaks out in dance in public places, and is still a complete dork.
Aaaaaand today is no exception. You bet your ass I’m wearing a tutu at some point in the next 24 hours. And it is quite possible I’ll be sober while doing so.
In the meantime, I decided to take this fine January 24th to explore some of my personal favorite recipes on the blog. As you know, I bake a ton ’round these parts, and while I like everything I make, I tend to only love a few things. Not surprisingly, more than half of this list will likely consist of doughnuts, aka the most perfect food in the world. But hey, it’s my birthday, my blog, and I can eat all the damn donuts I want, ya hear?!
So if you were ever wracking your mind and losing sleep wondering what are her favorite recipes?!, here’s your chance to see them for yourself! Hayley tested, Hayley approved. Now where is my freaking tutu…
Lite Triple Coconut Cupcakes — the frosting on these light, fluffy cakes makes me want to become an opera singer just so I can sing about these cupcakes.
Oatmeal Cookie Peanut Butter & Jelly Donut Bars — oh my god. Easily one of my top favorites ever ever ever. Cookies and donuts smushed into one bar? Hold me.
Donut Hole Blondies — freaking donuts, man. Get me every timeeeeee.
Fruity Pebble Macarons — the fanciest of French cuisine, these petite cookies had me doing very unladylike things, like crying uncontrollably while shoveling them into my mouth in a record-breaking speed.
Funfetti Bubblegum Cake — bubblegum ice cream owns my soul (along with donuts, pizza, and Betsey Johnson). This insanely sprinklefied cake is amazing for any chewing gum lovers!
Pecan Pie Blondies — these shocked me because traditionally I’m not a huge pecan pie kinda girl. But these blondies will turn you into what you least expected. They’re like a freaking voodoo hex, but tasty and less scary.
White Chocolate Snickers Blondie Bites — now ya’ll know I’m not a big chocolate kinda girl, so the white chocolate and blondified version of these bites had me on my kneeeeeees. SO.GOOD.
Mexican Mocha Cookies with Kahlua Icing — if you’ve never paired cinnamon with chocolate, YOU HAVE TO. It’s tamer (and WAY more delicious) than adding the typical spice from cayenne or chili powder which I don’t care for. This spiced up cookie with boozy frosting is just melt in your mouth awesomeness.
Churro Donuts — easily one of my favorite because who can resist a donut that tastes like a churro? NO ONE.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake — for serious, die-hard cookie dough lover freaks ONLY. This ain’t no faint-of-heart, cookie-dough-is-okay cake.
Buttery Biscoff Waffle Mix — I could not keep my hands out of this stuff to save my life! I mean, there are BUTTERED WAFFLES in the mix. Waffles, people!! And Biscoff. Aaaaand no willpower.
Rainbow Pinwheel Party Cake — this cake comes together in minutes and is SO fluffy, SO moist and SO OMG DELICIOUS. Plus, everyone loves rainbows. It’s a thing we’re born with.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownie Bombs — this satisfies every possible craving in one fell swoop. Cookie dough? Checcccck. Fudgy brownies? Double cheeeeckk. Heavy handed on the chocolate? Dude, come on now — CHECK! All you need is an appetite.
Pecan Snowballs — My favorite Christmas Cookie ever (and possibly favorite cookie ever). I am in loooooove and always eat a disgusting amount during the holidays. In fact, during the holidays I am rarely seen without a cloud of powdered sugar around me at any given time.
Super Crumb Cake — for those of us who prefer the crumb to cake ratio to be a biiiit uneven. And by a ‘bit’, I mean a ton. Hope you asked for cake with your crumbs, playa.
Mother Clucker Donuts — when I was young and naive I probably would have scoffed at protein sitting atop a freshly fried donut. But now that I am older, wiser, prettier, smarter, sweeter, funnier, more amazinger, I understand that this concept is seriously AWESOME. One bite and I swear you won’t be able to get these mother clucking donuts outta your mind. Trust.
Better Than Presents… Rainbow Birthday Poke Cake — it only LOOKS difficult to make, but it’s actually quite easy. Even simpler? Eating it. Betcha can’t stop at one slice.
Twinkie Strawberry Shortcake — as a kid, I snacked on Twinkies and their cousins (Ho-Hos, Ding Dongs, Nutty Bars and the like) as if my life depended on it. As an adult, I pair Twinkies with pudding and strawberries to create a tempting, light dessert that blows regular strawberry shortcake outta the water.
Carney Donut Parfaits — instant happiness in a cup! Apple pie filling marries beautifully with glazed donut holes, cream cheese icing and peanuts! It’s a circus freak’s dream come trueeeeee.
Sugar Cookie Covered Oreos — for me, nothing beats an overwhelming amount of bright, peppy sprinkles. These sugar cookies are rolled in the happy stuff, then wrapped & baked around an Oreo for an otherworldly experience. No — really. Try them with the Golden Oreos (my favorite!) or the flavored kinds, like Birthday Cake Golden Oreos, or even Neapolitan!
Funfetti Blondie Bites — these petite treats pack a powerful, cake battery punch. AND they’re coated in white chocolate and more sprinkles. You are welcome.
Cinnamon Roll Wrapped Donuts — the newest recipe to the blog is my newest favorite! If you ever had one of those nagging, annoying thoughts in your head that maybe–just maybe–a cinnamon roll could be improved upon, well.. this is your newest friend.
Well, that’s it. Clearly, I hate donuts. And sprinkles. And clearly, I am so boringly predictable. GAH!
Here’s hoping in my 23rd year I’ll find something new to obsess over besides Criminal Minds, donuts, Betsey Johnson, eBaying, Glamour Magazine, pizza, thick fringed bangs and combat boots. Or may 23 be the year where I get hospitalized for my obsessive love over a 70 year old designer and Derek Morgan.
Have a fantastical day!! If you need me, I’ll be at the bar.
