I made these and they looked great but I did bake them too long. You can't tell when they are done but take them out or they just get hard. I rolled out the dough into a square. Refrigerated it for about an hour. Put the two together then let them sit and warm up on top of each other before rolling. Once warm, roll it up and use your fingers to bring any cracks together. I then put it in the fridge again for another 1 hour before slicing and baking. Mine turned out really pretty - just too hard!

Ha, I think it's natural to be evasive if a stranger's knocking! :) Thanks Pam!

After reading your post (and knowing I'm going to love making such beautiful cookies) and also reading the comments, I am thrilled to know that I'm not alone in all of the evasive maneuvers I do when someone knocks on my door. In fact, now I know I'm probably in the majority of blog readers! Yay!

Sharon, I'm so sorry you had issues with these cookies. Without hearing what the problem was, I can't properly assess what could have gone wrong. However, I apologize.

Also I used my stand mixer to mix the dough on low, then split the dough in half and added the food coloring straight into the mixer one color at a time - no mess or dye on my hands.

After finding these on Pinterest I made these tonight and they came out SO CUTE!!! I put them in the freezer for 5 minutes after shaping them but before putting them in the oven (as I usually do with sugar cookies) to hold the shape. Came out great! My cousins called them the who-ville cookies :)
